| Jackie's nephew is thrilled with the US win. |
another gut-check game as the US overcame a fighting France team 3-1. They now play Japan on Sunday at 11aPT. Both teams won 3-1. Both games featured game-winning goals by a star player.
After a 9th minute goal by Lauren Cheney, France picked the pace. They were tougher, hungrier and seemed to want it more. Early in the 2nd half, they found a way...with a cross that was not touched and became a goal. Doh! Solo had to play as if the striker would redirect the ball. The Frenchie forward missed it and a surprised Solo could only watch the ball roll across the line. After that, it seemed that another game would go into Extra Time. But, Have no fear. SuperDuper Power Forward Abby Wambach is here! As Lauren Cheney launched a monster corner kick to the far post, she eluded her defender to find the only open space in front of the goal mouth. It seemed as if she would hit her head on the crossbar as she out-leaped the French keeper to power home another header. A few minutes later, Alex Morgan sealed it with a breakaway chip.
"This is our journey, this is our dream." -Abby Wambach.
Japan also got a go-ahead goal from legend Homare Sawa as they beat Sweden 3-1 to reach it's first World Cup Final.
