Goal number two was a lesson in geometry as Robinho laser-sighted a pass to Elano who one-touched the ball to the far post. pure beauty.
Manager Dunga ( who may actually be The Highlander) says "there can be only one". Kim Jon Il responds, 'not yet' as his puppets score one late to scare the 5 time Word Champs.
Futbol Today.
Today's featured game is Spain vs Switzerland ( 7a PT). Could be a fun game to watch as the #1 ranked Spaniards dispose of the Swiss like Russell Crowe knocking off rookie gladiators.
Honduras takes on Chile way too early in the day, while South Africa host Uraguay for the 'late' game.
I expect the Bafana Bafana to take this one on national pride .....and 2 goals from free kicks.
YOUTH DAY
Today is Youth Day here in South Africa. A holiday commemorating the day in 1976 when thousands of students in Soweto marched to protest educational policies imposed by the government under apartheid. The police tried to detour the growing march, then fired warning shots. At the end of the day 23 people were dead, many of them children. Thousands would die after that. It was a turning point in the the liberation of Africa and helped contribute to the fall of apartheid 18 years later. For an oppressed people, this was a rebirth. The feeling around the country is a wonderful juxtaposition of sadness and joyful celebration. Our 'PreGame' shows today will show some very emotional video features. quite eye-opening, worth Tivo-ing.
Security Schmurity!
For the most part, we are very safe around here.
We have an armed guard riding in our bus at all times.
We have dubbed him the Charles Bronson of Africa.
Nice enough bloke, but you can tell he's been through some BEEEEP.
He's one bad mama-jama!
Word on the street is that he could take Chuck Norris and Jean Claude WhatsHisFace with one vicious look.

*POLICE TAKE OVER SECURITY AT ELLIS PARK AS STRIKES CONTINUE.
As we enter the IBC, we are reminded that we are even more secure. Who would ever mess with the Secutiry Stallion? just the name alone makes me think that if I tried something, they throw me in the ring with The Italian Stallion, Rocky Balboa.
or worse, lock me in a room and make me listen to Frank Stallone:

Ok, sorry, that wasn't very nice. but it reminds you why Travolta's career really needed a comeback.
Oh wait, the Stallions are gone?
this from an mass e-mail today:
.....Stallion Security, the company responsible for security at the IBC, has been replaced with immediate effect by the South African Police Service (SAPS)."
hmmmm.
US vs England ratings!
ABC's coverage of the USA/England game garnered a 7.3 HH rating, 8,391,47 households, and 12,955,786 viewers. Univision's coverage of USA/England averaged 2,183,827 households and 3,778,112 viewers.
The overall three-hour telecast ranks fifth all-time behind three World Cup finals, including the 1999 Women’s World Cup Final, and the USA’s Round of 16 match against Brazil in the 1994 FIFA World Cup, all of which were televised on ABC.
Thanks for watching!
A cold few days here in Joburg! Last night, the temp dropped below freezing. On the way to work this morning, a few leaky irrigation pipes created an overnight ice sculpture on the bushes. Most of the weather here is sunny, cool and crisp, like those glorious autumn days in my Willamette Valley. But, yesterday, if felt like the Colorado chill coming off the Rockies, with the smell of snow in the air. made me smile.
Haven't had enough Vuvuzela buzzing in yo head?
now you can, all you need is an iPhone and this new app:http://news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-20007629-56.html
with a small bribe to the field maintenance crew, this would have ensured a US win over the Brits.
also today, were learned that a hotel sewage backup soaked England's uniforms! ha ha ha ha, Now that's sh*tty!

Glad to do my small part and be one of 16+ million viewers. I'm more than just a number though, so much more.
