Ya gotta admit, that was pretty darn excitin! I know, I know! It was a tie. But just you wait friendly nay-sayers. Take a moment to understand the big picture here. The Group play round is 3 games, top 2 teams advance. 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie. To gain 1 point against an over-matched England team sets us up nicely. If we win the next 2, which we can, to get 7 points, we should win the group. 1 win + 1 loss gets 4 points- probably 2nd in the group
Look at it from the perspective of the NY Post- headline "US wins 1-1".
England put a major scare in psyche of the US with a Steven Gerrard slice through the box in just the 4th minute. Panic should have struck, since a memory of a 0-3 loss 4 years ago against the Czechs in the opening game, but our boys held composure and built some momentum.
It was only a matter of time...finally Dempsey got mad, spun Gerrard around twice, juked, jived, then he wailed a knuckleball into the hands of Brit keeper Robert Green. Doh!!!, did you see that???? Green mishandled the ball and it rolled across the line to tie the game. This surely sends Green into history as another England net minder with a major gaffe to have nightmares about.
I partially attribute that goal to Dempsey's risk taking. the old adage rings true- you can't score if you don't shoot.
Bottom Line- We are fine, just need win. Next US game is Friday vs Slovenia.
Hmmmmm, wonder how many chances Charlie Davies would have put in the net if he were in playing shape??

After working early games, I handed over to Simon Fewing and Todd Kulis, so Chris Allan (our A1- lead Audio Engineer) and I watched the first have in the IBC HD Theater, then went to the cafeteria to catch the remainder. It was kinda like a pub crawl- without the cover charge.
then back to ESPN compound to catch the final minutes and feel the excitement of the crew.
Was anyone else annoyed at England manager Capella and his silly animated gyrations??? oy!
A 1-1 tie vs a World Power like England is very respectable,,,, and it really ticked them off. One the UK Broadcasters came by today to get footage, he was feeling quite somber. Not the first time Yanks made the Brits mad ;-)
WHY???? would the laundry service do this????
It took me about 3 non caffeinated hours before I figured out that they stitch our socks to keep them from getting lost in the wash.
Me thinks Beckham just graduated from Hogwarts!!
OK, time to go, I gotta do some business!!!

First the Pyramids, now the sock thing...brilliant!
