Clint Dempsey started the show with a shocker and newcomer John Brooks
threw the knockout punch as the US beat Ghana 2-1. Remember yesterday’s lesson from the Swiss about not giving up until the final whistle? Well, I’m not just nagging, it’s true. Ancient Wisdom passed on to you here, on this blog for absolutely free. Our boys in Red, White and Blue may have had some rough moments, like giving up a goal in the 82nd minute. (one freakin amazing goal, by the way) But, they never gave up hope. Four minutes later, Graham Zusi’s corner kick found the head of Brooks. As the ball hit the net, he tried to run. But, his emotions took over, he simply fell to the ground in awe of the moment.
Twenty Thousand US fans erupted in the stadium. Thousands more at CopaCabana beach joined in. How about you, where were you?
Pinball passing by Demarcus Beasley and Jermaine Jones set up some
brilliant footwork by Dempsey, who put himself in the record books. At 29 seconds
after the opening whistle, his goal is the 5th fastest in World Cup
History.
This was collective payback to Ghana for sending the Yanks home in the last 2 World Cups. All three games ended 2-1.
