What the, what the, what, WHAT??
In case you didn't notice, we have a biter! yes, that's what I said. Uruguay's Luis Suarez appears to have biten Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during yesterday's game. The ref didn't see it, but the cameras did. No need for me to give this dirtbag any more of my time. Just search the inter-webs if ya need.
The bigger issue here - this has happened before, TWICE!!! this dude needs to be suspended.

On the bright side for Suarez, his teams are undefeated when he bites someone.
This is just plain wrong in any sport. Stand by for FIFA suspensions coming soon. Mike Tyson, Tree Rollins- ya need a golf buddy?
Meanwhile, back to some real games, Colombia pounded Japan 4-1, remember the name James Rodriguez. wow, future futebol legend. 2 assists and one brilliant goal today. watch for him in the next round.
Rise of the Greeks.
Possibly inspired by the ancient Leonidis, Greece dug deep to conquer Ivory Coast 2-1. Spanakopita for all!
Sausage Making Chronicles - Episode 2 - Details and Digits.
Each stadium has 30 cameras (12 more in 4k) and 16 EVS XT3s. Those are the workhorse edit systems that most live sporting events use. Basically, it's TIVO on steroids. It's how we get all those replays of A-Rod to you so quickly. Each system takes in 2 cameras and has two output channels, some can take in up to 6. The hard drives can hold up to 80hrs of HD content. (Probably more if I did some real journalism). The proprietary controller allows us play something back while continuing to record. We make a clip of each play and can recall it at any time throughout the day or add it to a Playlist for Highlights.
Here at the Int'l Broadcast Ctr, IBC, we have live access to video feeds from each venue: the 'World Feed" clean cut, a highlight channel and 6 cameras. For the other cameras, we have File Transfer access to the massive server across the hall. That system has 42 XTs offering 4600 hours of storage.
In the next episode, I'll blabber on about how we integrate with our control room 20 miles away.

Whoda Thunkit!
Oh, how the tables have turned. Italy, Spain, England all failed to get out of the Group stage for the first time since 1974.
Music of the Day would not paint a complete picture of Brazils music and culture without Gilberto Gil.

On Tap Today:
Lots at stake in Groups F and E today. Final games in Group Stage are played simultaneously to eliminate the chance of collusion. here's how to make sense of it all. Compliments of TK.
Well, that's all the news that's fit to print.

I think I'll be watching the game via Twitter. USA soccer does play by play. Unless the place where I'm meeting friends for lunch today has it on.
ReplyDeleteAnd it didn't take long for the memes about Suarez to start floating around the interwebs.
LOVE the doppelganger, I think I woke Lori up laughing!
